ELECTRICITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Abstract:
Vector, New Zealands largest electricity distribution company, collaborated with Vodafone to streamline Vectors emergency response process. To reduce the amount of time spent transferring information and increasing its accuracy Bluetooth wireless mobile phones and PDA's are used to send all information about a fault from the office directly to the mobile repair crews. Using pre-defined pick lists the repair crew can update the job status, keep customers informed, explained what work was required and map the exact location of the fault. As a result faults are fixed sooner because the repair crews reach them faster, information is more accurate due to the use of pick-lists and paper work is almost eliminated enabling more time for crews to focus on repairing faults.
