SIGNIFICANT TREES MAPPING

The City of Manningham use ArcPad and GPS to collect important information about street trees in the municipality. The details that are collected in the field via customized forms include location, species, condition and health of the tree as well as any notes regarding the trees impact on the surrounding environment, such as branches coming into contact with powerlines or roots affecting the footpath. Once back at the office the information is used to generate reports for Parks staff to treat and maintain the trees identified. As the City of Manningham covers an historic orchard area, there remain a number of old cyprus and pine windrows which are heritage listed. These significant trees are also mapped and monitored using the same approach as for the street trees so as to ensure that they are protected and maintained as part of the areas heritage.
