FOOTPATH INSPECTION

User/Client:
Albury City Council, Victoria, Australia

Abstract:

Albury has introduced a digital footpath survey system for the safety of its citizens and to protect the Council against litigation. A matrix of graduated footpath defects and contributing factors was developed to assess the priority of a particular footpath defect. With the complete cadastre (property boundaries and addresses) of Albury loaded onto a handheld device, council staff record the location, description and risk rating of each defect via customized forms. A photograph is taken of each defect and linked to the location. Back at the office the risk rating determines the priority of the defect and whether it must be attended to immediately or whether funds will be allocated in the following years budget to fix the problem. The same data is used to produce instructions for dispatching repair crews.
