STREET SIGN MAINTENANCE

Road signs are a prevalent source of transportation-related litigation and lost, damaged or stolen signs can make government entities vulnerable to lawsuits and put the motoring public at risk. ArcPad was chosen as the solution to keep the signage data of Boulder County up to date and to make it available for use by maintenance crews. Personnel now carry a pocket PC containing an accurate and current digital map of more than 7,000 road signs with all the necessary information about each sign including type and location. Drop-down menus and data entry is standardised and employees are able to update information about an existing sign in the database while looking at that sign. Missing or incorrect signs have become much easier to locate and replace. Roadside sign inspections are more complete and accurate and employee mileage for sign replacement and inspection has been greatly reduced.
